22 Aug Outsource

There’s something amazing about the transition that’s happening between tradition businesses and those build on global dynamic teams. The new entrepreneur is living in an entirely different world. So what is this new beast?

Outsourcing Definition

Here’s an outsourcing definition of a global dynamic team.

  • It’s global, meaning the members of the team can be located anywhere on the globe. This means you can get the best person for the job instead of the closest person for the job.
  • It’s dynamic, meaning that the team grows and shrinks in response to the amount of work at hand. It means never paying for staff to sit around and fill their time with busy work that doesn’t net against your bottom line
  • It’s a team, meaning that you don’t have to do everything on your own!

In the old model, a.k.a. the way of the dinosaur, you were forced to get some office space, buy a bunch of furniture, hire a bunch of full time employees and grow your business in the hopes that you didn’t over-staff. In the new model, you build your own global dynamic team and leave all that behind.

These days, the new entrepreneur is learning to build virtual teams to outsource almost everything.

What is Outsourcing?

So what is outsourcing? How do you apply it day to day in your business? Level on is to outsource specific individuals and tasks through platforms like Fiverr.com and Elance.com. Here are a few helpful links to get you there –

Then, in the next level of the game, you hire a management layer of your global dynamic team to manage the rest of your global dynamic team! This is a transition I’ve been going through with my business in the last few months.

What we’re finding is that, in order to do this well, we need to take all our knowledge of concepts, tools and processes get them out of my brain! That means recording all of your sequences in master lists, perhaps using tools as simple as Microsoft Excel. It means overlaying those sequences with details screen capture videos, stored in a private video tutorial library, perhaps hosted on Youtube.com.

Once you have your intellectual property in these more flexible and scalable forms, passing on the knowledge to your team members is a point and click away. When you get this right, your global dynamic team can almost run itself.

Local Outsourcing

Of course, there are some strange humans who still enjoy meeting face to face. I count myself among them!

For my own part, I’ve been moving my team from being truly global to being focused in my adopted home town of Austin, Texas. There is a wealth of talent here, now being tapped to form the body of my local dynamic team. Buy local, right?

We meet via video conference every week and in person every couple of months. At least that’s how I want it! My intention is to take a day or two every year to meet on vision, purpose and to run the Fast Track Strategic Process as defined by my colleague and client, John Dame. His new book is coming out really soon.
