What I do

I think I do certain things with a particular magic. There are three things that I really enjoy, and which come naturally. I believe I do these at a good level or even at that magical level. The first of these things is technology. I’ve always been that technology kid from the first computer I was playing around with. I’ve found technology to be extremely intuitive and I’ve parlayed this into either creative outcomes, whether that’s video or sound or websitesor for strategic outcomes to do with  growing businesses. I’ve always found this space both comfortable and easy.

The second thing is anything to do with performance and presentation; anything to do with bringing that knowledge and information to the world. This I also find comfortable and easy and any day when I’m on stage or in front of cameras to do something for television or YouTube is always a banner day.

Finally, I especially delight in my comedy side that’s all about making people laugh and engage with whatever it is that we’re doing whether it’s in person conversations, email, stage or television. These three things are the touchstones for me throughout the course of my career in my life.

About Me

I grew up in Sydney, Australia. I was always interested in working on a global scale and so when I was seventeen or eighteen, I moved into America’s Silicon Valley and did well there. I worked with some big clients like IBM, Acer, 3COM and Lucent. While those clients were attractive because they had big projects and big budgets, I felt I couldn’t move the needle very much. Consequently, I wound up focusing instead on smaller businesses where I could work directly with CEOs and have a strong impactThe business started in 1996, so have many years of working on digital strategy, content creation and production.

Alongside that, I’ve done a lot of creative things, and often those two things convergeMy creative output covers everything from children’s books to children’s television, to stage shows including revue and musical comedy, and improv. Most recently I’ve moved into the Big Boat Adventure which covers a great many of my passions.

Speaking and presentation is also a great part of what I am. I’ve spoken to hundreds of audiences in more cities and countries than I can remember.

My Vision

I believe that if you wind up feeling that life is predictable or boring, thethat’s the moment where you stop, and you rethink. My book The Life Summit is about whole life strategic planning which is something I absolutely believe in. I think if you just let your life happen to you then you get a beige experience. I’ve always been ready to move on and reimagine the next amazing thing.

The Life Summit book is about the process and I still absolutely do it. Each year, I do one of these creative visualisations for my life. I publish each one as a hardcover book and I’ve now got them stacked up one after the other as I dream and redream what it’s like to live the best possible life for me. The experience of life is different for everybody, but that’s how I do it. I try and keep something interesting going on. I am actively engaged in trying to make the best of what’s possible. My life is full of things I get to do, rather than things I have to do.
